This Black History Month, I teamed up with Amazon Alexa to tell the story of one of the UK’s historic black pioneers. I chose to explore the life of Claudia Jones who was dubbed the Mother of Notting Hill Carnival and the piece is narrated by Trevor McDonald.

Trevor McDonald teams up with Alexa to narrate inspiring black British stories

Sir Trevor McDonald has teamed up with Amazon’s Alexa to narrate a collection of stories by some of the UK’s bestselling black authors for Black History Month.

The inspiring short stories explore the lives of Notting Hill Carnival founder Claudia Jones, black British designer Althea McNish and Evelyn Dove, who was the first black singer to feature on BBC Radio.

Among the stories is author Lauren Rae’s exploration into Claudia Jones and how she founded Notting Hill Carnival in 1959 as a celebration of black Britons at a time when racial discrimination was widespread.
